New Look, New Format

The Run: Rest Day

The Reason: Today would be the 74th birthday of my maternal grandfather. I loved him very much and think of him often. He died 17 years ago. I am not really sure what to say about him. He managed to live his life without the Internet, Facebook, iTunes or eBooks. He was content to work in his garden, tinker in the garage, and read the newspaper. He actually sat on his front porch and visited with people face to face. He drank iced coffee before anyone had ever heard of Starbucks. He enjoyed fishing and usually drove an old Ford pickup.

Many of the things that I enjoy, I enjoy because I used to do them with "Pops." If he were alive today, he would love my Ford Truck, Craftsman tool cabinet and the many power tools contained within. He would love to take my son fishing and be proud of Zach's work ethic. He would totally flip at the enormity of my garage. I wonder what he would think of my running? I think he would appreciate the work that Susie and I have done for the Organization for Autism Research-but I doubt he would see the value in running for hours on end.

Pops didn't spend a lot of time in church. I do know that he spent some time reading his Bible and even underlined some passages. I never remember having a conversation with him about spiritual things. It can be hard to get to that place, even with someone you love. It shouldn't be that way.

So I guess that is going to be part of the purpose of this blog. It will still have a running element to it, but I hope that the bulk of it will be sharing things from the Word of God that I have been studying, discussing, reading or just thinking about. Blogging about these thoughts will hopefully keep me accountable and keep me doing those things that I know I should be doing.
